It would seem...

...that Robert Fisk's articles that appear on the website of The Independent are now available for free. Previously there was a subsciption model for his articles. However, almost all of his articles were available widely on numerous other websites, sometimes the same day after being published on the Independent, so my guess is that subscription might not have worked for the newspaper.

The laptop...

...I have been using since September of 2004 is a Toshiba Satellite M30X. I have been pretty happy with this laptop, and it is still serving me well, except for a few keys on the keyboard which have aged (not in form, but function). However, one thing, the effect of which I remember having noticed before, but which I have felt more often now, is that of the 3 USB ports, 2 are at the back, and one is at the side. Now the one on the side is where I plug in my Hama notebook mouse. Which means that if I have to plug in some other device, I have to get up, if I am sitting, which I mostly am when using the laptop, (nearly) close down the laptop screen, and then be able to do it. One device which I have started using often is a USB flash-drive, and its quite uncomfortable to plug it in the laptop.
So the moral of the story is, next time I buy a laptop, one feature on my list would be having more than one USB ports on the side of the laptop.
