...reading "The Code Book" by Simon Singh. It seems to be very well-written, and tells the story of coding and code-breaking through the ages.
It is from this book that I learnt that Alan Turing worked to break the Enigma-encoded communications of the Germans during the second world war, and that he was a homosexual who committed suicide, possibly due to circumstances that emerged from his sexuality having been exposed.
